Foil welding is the fusing (joining) of two layers of foil in such a way that these two layers cannot be separated from each other without damage.

This technique is used in packaging to seal, for example, the opening, sides or bottom of a bag.

Not all materials are suitable for welding. The decisive factor for welding is the melting point of the material.

Thermoplastic films such as polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) up to a thickness of approx. 0.40 mm per layer can be easily welded.

The contact layer is important for composite films (material consists of several layers). For example, an aluminum or paper composite film can be welded very well if the contact layer (inside of the material) is made of polyethylene or other materials that are easy to weld. In connection with composite films, we also speak of sealing or a sealed seam.

When purchasing a film sealing machine, the suitability of the film material in which the product is to be packaged must also be taken into account. If in doubt, the film material can be tested on a polystar® film sealing machine.

To make one thing clear:
There is no one device for all applications!
As already mentioned, the needs of the film and the application must always be taken into account. The right film sealing device can then be selected.

• Which film material is used?
• Do you want to seal pre-made bags or use tubular film to make individual bags? Or do you need to seal endless film strips?
• How wide is the bag/tube?
• What is the cycle rate per hour or day?
• What is the nature of the bag contents:
  Grit or bulk goods, liquids?
• The only question that remains is what makes a good weld .
• The "right" foil material:
  Individually tailored to your needs.
• The correct welding time:
  Only set the welding time as high as necessary to achieve a good weld.
• Sufficient time for the material to cool down:
  This is the only way to achieve a good weld.
• The correct contact pressure:
  So that the foil material can cool under pressure.
• A clean film in the area of ​​the weld seam:
  Dust of any kind and oils prevent the two sides of the film from bonding!
